The Dive Experience
Abu Sawatyr is renowned for its stunning underwater architecture, including towering coral pinnacles, steep drop-offs, and pristine reef plateaus. The site is typically dived as a drift dive, taking advantage of gentle to moderate currents that bring in nutrient-rich waters, attracting large pelagics and swarms of reef fish. Divers can expect to glide alongside schools of fusiliers, snappers, and barracuda, with frequent encounters with Napoleon wrasse, trevallies, and the occasional grey reef shark or whitetip reef shark patrolling the blue.
The shallower zones are ideal for appreciating the intricate coral gardens, teeming with macro life such as nudibranchs, cleaner shrimp, and pipefish, making it a perfect blend of wide-angle and macro photography opportunities.
