ELPHINSTONE

A typical dive at Elphinstone depends heavily on the prevailing current, but it is fundamentally structured around two massive underwater plateaus extending from either tip of the main reef wall. Dives often start by dropping into the blue from a zodiac or speed boat and down on to one of the plateaus at each end. They begin around 15 metres and slope down gently to 40 meters before plunging into the abyss. After exploring a plateau, the dive transitions into a drift dive along the massive reef walls. These vertical drop-offs are completely draped in vibrant soft corals, massive gorgonian fan gardens, and black coral bushes. Sunlight piercing through the crystal-clear water illuminates swarms of orange anthias, fusiliers, and macro life tucked into every crack. The dive often ends by being escorted by the ever present Oceanic White Tip sharks cruising along in the shallows.
